Local Bird Experts Hope to ‘Win’ State-Wide Bird-A-Thon

WELLFLEET – A fundraising team at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary hopes to spot the most birds during an upcoming “Bird-a-Thon” fundraiser taking place across the state.

The weekend event from May 12th through the 13th raises funds for MassAudubon by pitting fundraising teams of birders from each region of the state against each other. The aim is to log the most species of birds in one weekend.

Funds raised benefit Audubon programs like classroom teaching, sea turtle rescue, nest protection and much more.

The Wellfleet team, named the Lame Ducks, will bird in the sanctuary – an area which has logged nearly 300 species since the 1800s.
