Local Dignitaries Celebrate Opening of Dennis Affordable Housing Complex with Ribbon Cutting

Melpet FarmsDENNIS – After five years of development, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Friday for the Melpet Farms Affordable Housing Complex in Dennis.

Congressman Bill Keating and State Representative Tim Whelan attended the event which celebrated the opening of the complex that finishes construction in December.

Melpet Farms, located on Route 134, has 27 units that are affordable to households earning 60 percent or less of the area median income.

A quarter of the units were set aside for those experiencing or facing homelessness.

“When you provide a decent place for somebody to live, you help them get their lives together forever,” said Housing Assistance Corporation CEO Rick Presbrey. “The short term thing is that you have a beautiful development like this. The long term thing is you make a big difference in people’s lives.”

The eight buildings constructed feature three to four units in each with a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments.

Keating said the project is an investment to the community.

“There’s people on both sides of the aisle that recognize there are areas where if you invest you get a payback that helps our economy move forward,” said Keating. “This is one of those instances where you put a dollar in and you have a multiplier coming out.”
