HYANNIS – The Barnstable Municipal Airport is currently acting as an art studio.

Eleven works by regional art teachers are adorning the airport’s walls as part of a cooperative exhibition with the Cape Cod and Islands Art Educators Association.

The photographs, paintings and sculptures all embody the theme of “Cape Cod: A Sense of Place” – a welcome sight for visitors or those returning home from away, said Airport Manager Roland “Bud” Breault.

“We’re always trying to make it look more welcoming, and the Cape is a big artists’ area,” Breault said.

Part of the proceeds from the artwork sales will go back to the community. Breault said all of the artists have agreed to give 30 percent of profits to a Cape Cod and Islands Art Educators Association Art Scholarship fund.

The works were initially installed on July 17 of this year. They will stay at the airport until January 2016, when a jury will decide what new works will replace them on January 23.
