CHATHAM – Local fishing officials are calling foul over the actions by large fishing trawlers during a recent week long fishing period off the coast of the Cape.
The boats overfished their quota by about 60 percent, according to Alex Friedman, the President of the Dukes County Fisherman’s Association.
He said these large vessels damage not only the fishing industry, but other industries as well.
The trawlers are banned from fishing in state waters, which extend about three miles off the coast.
Friedman says the boats fished right along that line.
