Local Group Plans Vigil For Human Trafficking Victims

HYANNIS – A candlelight vigil is planned for Saturday on Cape Cod to raise awareness about human trafficking.

Cape Cod PATH, which stands for People Against Human Trafficking, will hold the event from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Hyannis Village Green. The vigil coincides with Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

All are welcome to attend.

According to Cape Cod PATH, roughly 21 million people are currently victims of human trafficking. The group says human trafficking exists everywhere on earth, including Cape Cod.

The organization will accept care items for local victims. They are looking for toothpaste and toothbrushes, hairbrushes and hair ties, shampoo and conditioner, socks, underwear, sweatpants, baby wipes, and water.

Cape Cod PATH has partnered with the Victim Assistance wing of the Department of Homeland Security and is working with a number of local organizations as well.
