Local Hero Gets Memorial Dedication Tomorrow

AmericanFlagDENNIS – A local war hero who is the only Cape resident to receive the Medal of Honor, will have a memorial dedicated to him tomorrow.

Dennis Port native Benjamin Franklin Baker had a 30 year naval career and served in the Spanish-American war, the Philippine Insurrection and World War I, before he died in 1927.

Baker has not been listed on any of the town’s veterans monuments and local officials wanted to dedicate a memorial in his name.

An honor guard from Massachusetts Maritime Academy will be at the ceremony and Baker’s military awards will be present at the dedication.
