BUZZARDS BAY – A Marshfield High School senior has achieved the highest rank bestowed by the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Daniel Noons, the top Cadet of the Corps’ Gosnold Division, will receive the honor of Chief Petty Officer, a rank synonymous with Eagle in the Boy Scout program, on Saturday at 11 a.m. at MMA.
Noons joined the cadet Corps at the age of 11 and has completed boot camp at Ft. Devens in Ayer, training with the Coast Guard in Woods Hole, a leadership academy at MMA, field operations in Plymouth, military police training in Newport, Rhode Island, and underway at sea aboard a Navy transport ship.
Noons is also a lifeguard for the YMCA and an accomplished varsity swimmer. He has also been an award-winning member of the division’s swim team and silent drill team, along with serving as a Squad Leader before his appointment as the Leading Cadet for the division.
The Cadet Corps is a non-profit youth program supported by the Navy and Coast Guard. The Gosnold Division has operated on Cape Cod since 1975.
