YARMOUTH – Through a unique fundraiser collaborative, the Institute for Nonprofit Practice (INP) launched the third year of its award-winning Core Certificate Program on Cape Cod and the Islands earlier this month.
The fourteen funders, dedicated to strengthening the local nonprofit sector, have underwritten the costs of INP’s nonprofit leadership development program, also offered in Greater Boston, the Merrimack Valley, and Rhode Island. The program is affiliated with the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life at Tufts University.
The participating funders for Year 3 are: Arts Foundation of Cape Cod; Bilezikian Family Foundation; Cape and Islands United Way; Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank Charitable Foundation; Cape Cod Foundation; Cape Cod Healthcare Community Benefits; The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod; Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation; Edward Bangs Kelley and Elza Kelley Foundation; Martha’s Vineyard Donors Collaborative; Martha’s Vineyard Permanent Endowment; Rotary of Martha’s Vineyard; The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation; and The Vineyard Fund for Board Development and Education. The Cape Cod and Islands Association of Realtors and Cape Cod Community College are assisting with class space.
Cape Cod Foundation President and CEO Kristin O’Malley said, “We are grateful that the Institute for Nonprofit Practice is continuing to offer this powerful program on Cape Cod and the Islands, and that the funders are continuing to support this vital initiative. When we strengthen our nonprofit leaders, we strengthen their individual organizations and the collective impact they have in the community.”
The 32 alumni from the past two Cape Cod and Islands cohorts continue to meet and collaborate.
The new group consists of 24 leaders and managers from a diverse group of nonprofit organizations from Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket. Traveling from the Islands presents a barrier to participation, so this year a cohort of nine leaders from Martha’s Vineyard will meet weekly for their small-group practicum sessions on the Island and then travel to the Cape for the monthly sessions with the larger group.
“We are excited that we are able to support nine leaders from Martha’s Vineyard in the program this year. Access to high-quality, intensive training like this is hard to achieve for our Vineyard leaders, so we are grateful to the Institute for Nonprofit Practice for their flexibility and willingness to adapt to further meet the needs of our region and our leaders,” said Peter Temple, Executive Director of the Martha’s Vineyard Donors Collaborative.
The program includes approximately 50 hours of classroom sessions on nonprofit management and leadership skills and another 30 hours of small-group sessions which encourage shared problem-solving, reflection, and application of skills. Participants also have mentoring opportunities and access to the Institute’s alumni programs.
In May 2019, members of this cohort will graduate with a Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life at Tufts University.
