Man Accused in Falmouth Police Shooting Arraigned in Superior Court

Malik Koval being restrained after allegedly shooting two Falmouth police officers

BARNSTABLE – The man accused of shooting two Falmouth police officers this past summer pleaded not guilty this week in Barnstable Superior Court and will remain held without bail.

Malik Koval, 21, of Falmouth, is accused of armed assault to murder with a firearm, among several charges.

He was indicted by a grand jury last month. Koval was already being held following his first arraignment in district court.

He’ll be back in court on December 14.

On July 27, Falmouth police responded to a home on Ashley Drive for a disturbance in the street. That’s where they encountered Koval breaking bottles in the street.

Prosecutors said that as police tried to engage him he became agitated, and ran into the home at 2 Ashley Drive.

Two individuals, Marcus Maseda and Kimberly M. Koval, the mother of both men, allegedly tried to interfere with the officers’ efforts to follow Koval.

Koval eventually produced a gun and allegedly began shooting at the officers, striking Officer Don De Miranda and Officer Ryan Moore.

Both fully recovered from their injuries.
