SANDWICH – A newly-formed group in Sandwich is holding a meeting at Town Hall on Monday about substance abuse prevention.
The Sandwich Substance Abuse Prevention Committee will hold their meeting at 7 p.m., where they will guide small group discussions on the issue.
“We’re trying to get members of the community to learn more, to engage more and to understand what they’re part can be,” said Linell Grundman, Sandwich representative to the Barnstable County Regional Substance Abuse Council.
Dr. Kevin Hill, an addiction psychiatrist from Harvard Medical School, will explain the truth about the risks of marijuana, opioid and alcohol use, from an evidence-based prospective.
Sandwich Police Chief Peter Wack is introducing two new by-laws at the Annual Town Meeting on May 2, to create a safer environment for youth and to help send a strong anti-drug message to the community.
Chief Wack will explain the by-laws and take questions at Monday’s meeting.
“This is not going to go away and what’s working with communities throughout the Commonwealth and the country are communities that are organized through the kind of work that we’re trying to do,” said Grundman.
