OAK BLUFFS – A special town meeting has been scheduled for next Tuesday in Oak Bluffs.

Repairs to be made to the roof of the Oak Bluffs School and plans to build a new town hall, among other articles, prompted the meeting to be scheduled.

During the annual town meeting in April 2017, the town approved plans to spend $9.8 million on a new town hall. The project has been stalled, however, due to two bids coming in over budget by millions of dollars.

Faced with additional budgetary issues, the town is now handing the decision to spend an extra $1.3 million on the project to voters in a special election. The additional cost would be funded at a 3-percent interest for 20 years, with the average home in the town paying $300 over that timeframe.

The special meeting will also discuss the funding article for a new roof and HVAC system at the Oak Bluffs School. The project has a bid price of $7.8 million.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. at the Oak Bluffs School.
