WEST BARNSTABLE – Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito spoke to local middle and high school students at the Tilden Arts Center at Cape Cod Community College on Thursday about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math programs, otherwise known as STEM.
Polito said the technology landscape is constantly changing and the subjects students are learning now will aid them in their future endeavors.
“So (technology is) changing everything and it will continue to do so. So, the skills that you need to know in school, that you’re learning now, are going to be very relevant to what you do in the future,” Polito said.
“There are jobs that exist today that didn’t exist five, ten years ago,” she said.
“And in another ten years, there’s going to be new jobs that don’t exist today in your future.”
Polito’s appearance comes after the college received $310,000 from the Baker-Polito Administration for STEM-related upgrades to classrooms and labs.
Earlier in the day, Polito was in East Falmouth with Department of Fish and Game Commissioner Ron Amidon and State Representatives David Vieira and Dylan Fernandes, both of Falmouth.
The group visited the Coonamessett River Restoration Project site which received a Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Action grant in June.
