OAK BLUFFS – Martha’s Vineyard Community Services is auctioning off more popular low-number plates.
The numbers up for auction were pulled from a public survey.
The proceeds from the auction will go towards funding a variety of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services youth and senior programs that support the island’s residents.
“It’s been really interesting hear about affinities people have with numbers. Anything from professional sports players, addresses, birth years, significant years in someone’s life, to lucky numbers,” said Mary Korba, Communications Manager at Martha’s Vineyard Community Services.
Bids for plate numbers start at $2,500, but there is also a “buy it now” price of $10,000.
“Proceeds from the sales directly benefit MVCS. We’re the island’s social services safety net. One in 3 islanders rely on our services every year,” said Korba.
“Our service are critical to the health and well-being of our community. We have a huge offering of programs and services.”
Some of the services include CONNECT to End Violence—a service for domestic and sexual violence, Disability Services, Early Childhood Programs for families of young children, counselling, and others.
“We rely on major fundraisers over the summer to provide revenue for our unfunded care and this is another one of those ways we can support the vital services that we provide,” said Korba.
To date, the plates have brought in over $350,000.
The auction is open now until Wednesday, August 14 at 9 pm.
