Local Research Group Plans Lecture on Warming New England Continental Shelf

WOODS HOLE – A local organization is putting on a lecture later this month examining concerns about the warming of the New England continental shelf.

The Sea Education Association will be presenting information gathered over a 10 year span that shows significant warming in the waters south of Cape Cod. The lecturers will discuss what this means for fisheries and future storms in New England.

The data was compiled by the Sea Education Association and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

Ben Harden, an Assistant Professor of Oceanography at the Sea Education Association and Glen Gawarkiewicz, a Senior Scientist at WHOI, will put on the program, which is titled “Hot Enough For You? Recent Warming of the New England Continental Shelf.”

The event is scheduled for Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m. at the James Madden Center at the Sea Education Association in Woods Hole.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
