Local Funeral Services Announced For Florida Sheriff’s Deputy, Falmouth Native

FALMOUTH – Local funeral services have been announced for the Cape Cod native who was killed in a Florida crash over the weekend.

A wake for is planned for Deputy Sheriff John Kotfila Tuesday night at the Chapman, Cole, & Gleason Funeral home from 4-8 pm in Falmouth. A funeral mass is planned for Wednesday at 11 am at St. Patrick’s Church.

Kotfila died after his cruiser was hit by a wrong way driver Saturday. Witness Sarah Geren told reporters in Tampa that Kotfila drove his cruiser between her vehicle and the wrong way driver, likely saving her life.

Kotfila comes from a family of police officers. His father, John, is a Massachusetts State Police Sergeant based at the Bourne barracks. His brother, Michael, is a Falmouth police officer.
