BARNSTABLE – A loggerhead turtle that has been in residence at the National Marine Life Center in Bourne is now back in the wild after about eight months of rehab at the Center.

Kate Shaffer is a coordinator at the Center, she said the turtle, named Tide, received a variety of rehab in getting healthy after being cold stunned, he washed up in Brewster in December.

“Tide was one of those turtles, he came in and was treated with antibiotics, and more recently he was treated for a parasitic infection.”

“And finally, the water became warm enough on the southern coast of the Cape and he was ready to be released.”

Tide had a satellite tag attached and released at Craigville beach Tuesday. The Center attached a satellite tag to the animal and will be watching closely to be sure he heads in the right direction.
