BARNSTABLE – A longtime member of the Barnstable Planning Board has stepped down from his post after more than two decades on the job.

Chairman Ray Lang announced last week that he was retiring after spending the last 22 years in town government.

Lang’s departure marks a change in leadership on the board. Mary Barry takes over as Chair, Stephen Helman will serve as Vice Chair, and Steven Costello will be the clerk.

At the July 10 meeting, fellow board members and town officials thanked Lang for his service for Barnstable.

“How do you thank someone who has been a guiding light for so long?” said Barry.
