COTUIT- The extended handicap ramp at Loop Beach is becoming closer to reality thanks to donations from interested residents.
Cotuit resident Laurie Dooley-Corey says that it didn’t appear the project was going to happen last month when she was still thousands of dollars short of her project goal.
The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department agreed to volunteer their time to build the ramp, but set a deadline by September 22.
After receiving numerous donations from residents, including from Representative Joseph Kennedy, Dooley-Corey says she is now only $2,170 short of her goal of $7,900.
That would cover the costs of the materials for the ramp.
The Barnstable County Sheriff Department has also told Dooley-Corey that they have extended their deadline until March.
She says she hopes to continue to receive donations for the project so that they can meet their March deadline to build the ramp, and then have the ramp open to the public next summer.
