Lt. Gov. Polito on Cape Cod to Deliver Money; Support New Business

Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito speaks Thursday during the annual meeting of the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce. She also attended events in Truro and Bourne.

SANDWICH – It was a busy Thursday on Cape Cod for Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, as she attended events in Truro, Sandwich and Bourne.

Polito joined Truro town officials and State Representative Sarah Peake to announce a state land transfer of 3.9 acres to develop into affordable and market rate housing.

Polito said the “Open for Business” initiative is important for the town and region, which is suffering from an inadequate supply of affordable housing.

“This is one way that our administration can help grow the housing stock and set an example for other communities to look at other state land in their towns and see if it can be turned into a better, higher, tax-producing or housing use,” Polito said.

Polito then traveled to the Upper Cape to speak at the annual meeting of the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce at Sandwich Taverna.

She discussed the bipartisan effort by state leaders to work to make the state a competitive place to do business and expressed gratitude for small businesses.

“These are employers that produce a lot of jobs. They are the backbone of our economy despite the fact that we are looking at big players like GE and Amazon,” Polito said. “Let’s face it – it’s the small businesses in the community that really matter.”

The Baker Administration is working at ways to reduce the cost of business for smaller companies to allow economic development in communities.

Polito then took a short trip to Bourne to announce a $1.5 million MassWorks grant to the town for a wastewater treatment plant.

She said the grant will help to grow the system to open up Buzzards Bay to more economic development.

“In particular, [it will allow for] more hotel units and more housing for that area which is part of their economic development strategy,” Polito said.
