DENNIS – Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito visited communities on the Cape yesterday and announced a state grant of $825,000 to the town of Dennis.
That money, which comes from Community Development Block Grant funds, will go to help provide housing rehabilitation assistance to 17 affordable housing units.
Polito made the announcement at a press conference at Melpet Farms in South Dennis in front of affordable homes that are being constructed in time for this fall.
Polito said that affordable housing is an issue across the state but especially on the Cape and Islands.
“When the tourists go away, and you really understand who wakes up and who lives here every day, there are still many families and individuals that need help,” said Polito.
State Representative Tim Whelan (R-Brewster) attended the gathering and made the funding announcement before introducing Polito.
Polito was in Truro earlier in the day and held a community leaders meeting before going to the event at Melpet Farms, where she talked to town officials.
Polito said she knows what is most important for Cape Cod right now.
“If we’re really going to make stronger communities here on the Cape and really create the next generation that can afford to live here, you need more affordable and workforce housing in every part of the 15 communities on the Cape,” said Polito.
