YARMOUTH – Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito signed six Community Compact agreements Thursday with officials from Brewster, Orleans, Provincetown, Sandwich, Truro, and Yarmouth.
Yarmouth marked a milestone as the Commonwealth’s 200th Community Compact.
Polito signed the agreements at a ceremony at Yarmouth Town Hall on Thursday.
State Representatives Tim Whelan, Brian Mannal, Sarah Peake and Randy Hunt attended the event.
By entering a Community Compact, the towns agree to implement self-selected best practices.
As part of the partnership, the state agrees to fulfill a set of commitments and works to provide assistance for a community based on their chosen best practice.
Those best practices include financial management, technology transparency, housing and economic development and regional cooperation/shared services.
“The Commonwealth is excited to announce these new partnerships with another six communities as we continue to develop robust relationships and work together to strengthen cities and towns across Massachusetts,” said Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito. “We are thrilled to sign our 200th Compact and hope many other municipalities in the Commonwealth will continue to consider this opportunity.”
The Community Compact is a voluntary, mutual agreement entered into between the Baker-Polito Administration and individual cities and towns of the Commonwealth.
The Compact also articulates the commitments the state will make on behalf of all communities, including helping the community attain their chosen best practice.
“It creates a relationship and a communication pathway that I hadn’t seen before to this extent,” said Rep. Hunt. “That, as much as the specific projects, is going to open the door for many more things in collaboration going forward.”
