Lt. Governor Polito Meets Nero Doctor

HYANNIS – Lt. Governor Karyn Polito was on Cape Cod Thursday and visited the Hyannis Animal Hospital and the new Sgt. Sean Gannon Training Complex in Yarmouth.

At the animal hospital, the Lt. Governor spoke with Dr. Kevin Smith, the facility is where Sgt. Gannon’s K-9 Partner Nero was treated after being shot in the April incident where Sgt. Gannon was killed.

During the visit she was accompanied by 2nd Barnstable State Representative Will Crocker.

“I am pleased to have Lieutenant Governor Polito in the district and to tour the Hyannis Animal Hospital, meet the veterinarians, and witness firsthand the great work they are doing,” said Crocker.

“I also had the opportunity to brief her on some of the legislation that I have filed this session including Nero’s Bill, as well as bills that would benefit children who have suffered through domestic violence abuse, property tax relief for seniors and veterans, and school bus safety.”

Nero’s Bill would allow  police and other emergency service animals injured in the line of duty to be treated by first responders.

Polito and Crocker later joined the Yarmouth Police Department to celebrate the official opening of phase one of the Sergeant Sean M. Gannon Training Complex at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters, a state-of-the-art facility that features a MILO Range Interactive Use of Force and Tactical Judgement Training system.
