Luxury Coach Bus to Begin Service Between Boston and P-Town Today

PROVINCETOWN – The Bay State Cruise Company has launched a new luxury bus that will transport passengers from Provincetown to Boston starting today.

The pilot program will run this weekend and next weekend and is designed to bring more people to Provincetown.

The company runs a ferry between Boston and Provincetown and is providing the alternative mode of transportation as ferry service ended last weekend.

“The last two weeks of October are always very busy in Provincetown there’s a lot of activities,” said Provincetown’s Director of Tourism Anthony Fuccillo. “The customers that travel on Bay State Cruises, and the Boston Harbor Cruise as well, have often told the cruise companies they would like to see an extended ferry service going into the later weeks in October.”

Ferry service ended because the seas have started to get rougher.

“So why not offer them this new option,” said Bay State Cruise Company owner Mike Glasfeld. “A very comfortable way of getting down there and a nice alternative as opposed to getting sea sick on a ferry that is trying to fight its way through autumnal wave conditions.”

Bay State Cruise Company will be leasing the 55 person coach bus from LimoLiner.

Half the seats in the bus have been taken out and passengers are provided food and beverages, according to Glasfeld.

Glasfeld said he got the idea from the Provincetown 365 Committee.

The service will leave Boston on Friday nights, starting tonight, and will make the return trip Sunday evenings.

Glasfeld said the service could be extended or brought back in the future if the ridership is strong.

“Depending on the results and what data we can gather over these two weekends and maybe some add-ons after that,” he said. “Anything is possible in the future.”

Fuccillo said getting visitors to Provincetown is always a goal.

“We always welcome visitors to Provincetown and it’s an exciting time of the year for us,” he said. “The Halloween week is often a blast for everyone and the more the merrier.”

Officials in Provincetown are hoping the pilot program works out as well so the service can be expanded.

“We are hoping this test is graded an ‘A’ so that they will want to continue doing this service through other times of the year whether it be on special holiday weekends or just to provide transportation to and from Boston in the shoulder seasons to bring more visitors to town,” Fuccillo said.

The cost of the service will be the same as the cost to take the ferry.
