HYANNIS – The man accused of killing Yarmouth Police Sgt. Sean Gannon has been indicted on multiple charges, including murder and being an armed career criminal.

The Barnstable County Grand Jury handed down the indictments Wednesday afternoon against Thomas Latanowich, 30.

Gannon was shot and killed on April 12, 2018 as he and his fellow officers attempted to serve a warrant on Latanowich in Marstons Mills.

Gannon’s K-9, Nero, was also shot and seriously wounded. The dog continues to recover.

Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe said Latanowich had violated the conditions of his probation which had been transferred from Barnstable County to Middlesex County.

The warrant in question was issued by a Middlesex Court.

The killing has sparked outrage about how a career criminal could have been out on probation considering his record.

It has spurred law enforcement around the state to press the Legislature into taking action to reform the criminal justice statutes.

Latanowich remains held without bail.

“All of the police, crime scene personnel and prosecutors who gathered the evidence and put this case before the grand jury, thank the members for their service,” said O’Keefe in a statement.
