SANDWICH – Authorities have identified the man pulled dead from the Cape Cod Canal last weekend as a New Hampshire resident.

The Cape and Islands district attorney’s office says the suspected drowning victim is 54-year-old Scott Allen Graichen.

Graichen’s body was recovered by the Coast Guard at around 12:30 p.m. Sunday. He was unresponsive and was pronounced dead by the Massachusetts Environmental Police and Sandwich Fire Department when he was brought ashore.

A search was launched for Graichen after a towboat company came across an unmanned boat off Marion on Saturday. The nearly 22-hour search spanned the west entrance of the canal as well as Buzzards Bay.

The death remains under investigation.
