‘Man of La Mancha’ to Open at Cotuit Center for the Arts

COTUIT – One of the most successful musicals in Broadway history will open next week at the Cotuit Center for the Arts.

Dale Wasserman’s “Man of La Mancha” will run from June 28 through July 29.

Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m.

“Man of La Mancha,” directed by Joan Baird and inspired by the 17th-century masterpiece “Don Quixote,” celebrates the perseverance of an old man who refuses to relinquish his ideals or his passion.

Baird says the show’s message is still very relevant today and has great power to move people.

The score, by Mitch Leigh and Joe Darion, includes the songs “The Impossible Dream,” “I, Don Quixote,” and “I Really Like Him.”

There are no elaborate costumes of sets for the performance as all the action takes place in a dungeon.

Baird says “Man of La Mancha” is a very tight show and that the intimate stage is perfect for the play and brings the audience right into the story.

Tickets are $35, and $30 for balcony seats. There is also a $5 discount for members and a $2 discount for seniors and veterans. To purchase tickets and for more information, visit artsonthecape.org.
