WEST YARMOUTH – A Milford man was arrested on charges of heroin distribution yesterday after Yarmouth police say he was revived with Narcan after an overdose.

Officers Justin Haire and Matthew Sheehan said they found Edward M. Matz III, 50, unresponsive at the Bayside Resort on Route 28 in West Yarmouth around 3:30 a.m. and he was revived with Narcan and taken to Cape Cod Hospital by the Yarmouth Fire Department.

Police say this was Matz’s second opiate-related overdose in the past week. Deputy Chief of Police Steven Xiarhos said Matz had overdosed last week in a room at the Ambassador Inn in South Yarmouth and was revived with Narcan.

A search of his room uncovered 29 baggies of heroin, according to police.

Police say Matz has a long criminal history with 142 prior criminal charges in Massachusetts which includes several felony drug distribution charges.

Matz was arraigned yesterday in Barnstable District Court on on outstanding warrant and possession with intent to distribute heroin.
