YARMOUTH – Maplewood at Mayflower Place in Yarmouth held a grand opening for their new memory care neighborhood last night.

The complex is dedicated to providing Alzheimer’s and dementia care, as well as those living with memory impairment and includes an entertainment area and dining room.

Maplewood at Mayflower Place Executive Director Joan Houlihan said the new improvements mean so much to the residents’ families.

“Families know that their parents are safe, that their parents are engaged and that their parents are really experiencing life on a day-to-day basis,” said Houlihan. “It makes a big difference to a family.”

Maplewood Senior Living is also expanding its care options on the Cape.

A new 75 bed memory care facility is expected to begin construction in the spring and take up to 14 months to complete.

The $13.3 million facility will be built at the former Mill Hill Club in West Yarmouth and will provide care for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

Maplewood has also scheduled a grand opening next Thursday for its new assisted living and memory care facility on Harwich Road in Brewster.

The two-story, 115,000 square foot facility features 132 units with features that include two memory care neighborhoods, open-display kitchens, dining rooms, a brain fitness center and a spa and beauty salon.

“It’s nice to keep people in their own home and their own setting when they move into communities, so we’re just meeting the needs of our residents and this is going to be an enormous need as we move forward with this aging process in the entire country,” said Houlihan.
