Maplewood Senior Living to Begin Work on New Facilities

WEST YARMOUTH – Maplewood Senior Living is expanding its care options on Cape Cod with multiple facilities to serve the area’s senior residents.

A new 75-bed memory care facility will be built at the former Mill Hill Club in West Yarmouth to provide care for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

“We are excited about bringing that property into the fold because what it does is just adds another layer of care to the existing community,” said Gregory Smith, the chairman and CEO of Maplewood Senior Living.

Smith said there is a much needed Alzheimer’s and dementia market on the Cape and that the region has been underserved in that area.

The $13.3 million Maplewood at Mill Hill Pond facility and its eight acres will also connect to the property of the senior care facility on Buck Island Road which will be called Maplewood at Mayflower Place.

Smith said millions of dollars will be invested into updating the former Mayflower Place Nursing and Rehabilitation facility and the building of a new standalone facility with 50 assisted living units.

“I think that we are looking to break ground in December or January on that project and be open in the early part of spring of 2017,” he said.

Maplewood also purchased a 24-acre property on Harwich Road in Brewster and has built a 131-unit, 115,000 square-foot assisted living and memory care facility.

Smith said that building is expected to open in middle of January.

“Unbelievably, we’ve been having an incredible amount of deposits well in advance of opening,” Smith said. “I think we are about 50 percent pre-sold already and we are excited about getting that building opened and getting some new product into that particular market in that part of the Cape.”

Smith said the decision to expand to the Cape was an easy one because of the demographics.

“You’re seeing a much larger aging population as we progress in the Baby Boomer era,” he said.
