NANTUCKET – A college student that spent his summer on Nantucket as an intern has been selected to participate in a U.S.-Russia student forum to promote collaboration and dialogue between the two countries.
Tanveer Karim, who attends the University of Rochester, spent the summer with the Maria Mitchell Association working as one of the six National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates astronomy interns.
He conducted research on gaseous outflows from the Milky Way Galaxy and worked at the Observatory leading visitors on constellation tours of Nantucket’s night skies.
Karim is one of thirty-one students selected out of over 600 applicants to participate in the forum.
The goal of the forum is to come up with ideas that will help solve real world problems pertaining to the relationship between the U.S. and Russia through research in science, business, economics and other policies.
The delegates will attend two conferences, one in Moscow and the other at Stanford.
Karim will be a delegate for the Science, Engineering and Technology working group.
The Moscow conference will be held in November.
