NANTUCKET – The Maria Mitchell Association’s summer Science Speaker Series continues this week with a discussion on NASA’s Stardust probe.
Dr. Martha Hanner’s lecture, “The Stardust Mission: Snatching a Sample of a Comet,” will focus on discoveries regarding the early formation of the universe and the role comets may have played in shaping the earth.
The probe, which launched in 1999, collected dust samples from a distant comet before coming back to earth in 2006.
The lecture is Thursday, August 9 night at 7 p.m. at 2 Vestal Street. The event is free for members and $10 for non-members.
