Maria Mitchell Association Schedules Several Summer Science Speakers

maria mitchellNANTUCKET – Donald Sadoway, noted scientist and inventor from MIT is but one of 17 scientists that will be speaking this summer at the Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association’s Summer Science Speaker Series.

The series is sponsored by Cisco Brewers and Nantucket Island Resorts.

Sadoway is leading the way as a world-renowned expert in the area of batteries and grid-level energy storage.

The Canadian-born engineer has taught the largest, most popular class at MIT and considers mentoring students his most rewarding accomplishment.

Sadoway was chosen as Time’s 100 Most Influential People in 2012 and travels the world speaking to esteemed colleagues, organizations and influencers about the future of energy.

Additional speakers this summer include Dr. Heather Goldstone, NPR host of “On Point” who will discuss climate change and local weather, Robert Prescott, Executive Director of the Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, and Dr. Tracy Romano, Chief Scientist and Vice President of Research at Mystic Aquarium.

The Maria Mitchell Association is named after America’s first female astronomer who was known for discovering a comet over Nantucket in October 1847.

The Association was founded in 1902 to preserve her legacy of scientific achievement and to carry on her passion for hands-on learning.
