Maria Weakening, High Surf Advisory Issued for Cape & Islands

HYANNIS – Tropical Storm Jose is long gone but a high surf advisory remains for Monday and Tuesday for Cape Cod and the Islands as Hurricane Maria follows a similar path through the Atlantic.

The National Hurricane Center says the Category 1 storm is weakening due to colder water churned up by Jose.

Maria is also expected to make a hard turn east on Wednesday avoiding the northeastern U.S.

Tropical storm warnings and watches have been issued for portions of the North Carolina coast.

An evacuation is underway on Ocracoke Island on North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
