WELLFLEET – With the rescue of four male dolphins that were stranded in Wellfleet on Tuesday morning, a milestone was reached by the International Fund for Animal Welfare.
The IFAW’s Marine Mammal Rescue and Research team reached a total of 5,000 animal rescues with the successful release of the dolphins.
The group reached the milestone on its 20th anniversary. Beginning the year with 4,700 total rescues, the group was determined to reach 5,000 by year’s end, adding 300 more rescues to its resume.
All four of the dolphins rescued on Tuesday were given thorough health assessments before they were let back into the ocean.
