Marine Trades Association Praises State Senators for Supporting Technical Education

HYANNIS – A local trade association is praising the inclusion of an amendment to the State Senate’s budget that would support technical education for marine trades.

The Massachusetts Marine Trade Association says the amendment is important for the boating industry, which has an economic impact of over $2 billion and employs 11,000 residents in the state.

The industry is facing a substantial workforce shortage both in Massachusetts and across the nation.

The association says there are hundreds of available jobs and about 3,000 jobs are estimated to be available over the next few years.

Cape and Islands State Senator Julian Cyr was one of 13 co-sponsors of the adopted amendment.

The Senate recently passage its $41.5 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2019.

The final version of the budget will be worked out between the House and Senate by a conference committee.
