Maritime Related Donations Being Sought By Friends Of Nauset Light

FALMOUTH – The Nobska lighthouse property in Falmouth is in the process of being converted into a public park and education center.  Its tower will be ready for tours this spring, after having a complete restoration.  Work still needing to be done includes painting, addressing corrosion issues as well as removing and replacing broken glass.

Brian Nickerson, president of The Friends of Nobska Light, is excited about what’s ahead.  “Our long term plan is to have a regularly open museum of the region’s maritime history.  We’re in a science community, so education is very important.”

Planning is underway to house artifacts in the Keepers’ House while the museum is being worked on.  The job is expected to last around two years.

Nickerson says people who visit the location have a long lasting experience.  “There’s always the nostalgia of a lighthouse, but I think most people who have been to a lighthouse remember it.  They remember what lighthouses they’ve been to.  I think most people do.”

They have already received a number of donated historic maritime and nautical historic items, but are hoping for many more.

Anyone who has related  documents and artifacts is asked to consider donating them to the museum, which is tax deductible.

More information can be obtained by contacting Nickerson at [email protected].
