Maritime Symposium to Celebrate the Cape’s Seafaring History

BREWSTER – An event at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History this month will focus on all things maritime.

The 20th Annual Cape Cod Maritime Symposium on Saturday, May 21st from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. will cover a host of topics related to seafaring people, practices and economics.

Assistant Professor of History at Barnard College, Columbia University Andrew Lipman will present “The Saltwater Frontier: Indians and the Contest for the American Coast.”

A true story involving Shakespeare and a shipwreck will be told by Andrew Giles Buckley of Hit and Run History.

Another session will focus on the artistry of ship figureheads.

Finally, Executive Director of the Henry Beston Society Don Wilding will discuss how “The Outermost House” inspired the Cape Cod National Seashore.
