Mashpee Commons by Design to Host Forum on Economic Growth

MASHPEE – A panel discussion will be held next week by Mashpee Commons by Design on creating a stable economic base for the town.

The event is the second Tuesday Talk to gather input from the public as officials with Mashpee Commons work on plans to expand the mixed-use development with additional business space and housing units.

The panel discussion is Tuesday at the Mashpee Library at 6 p.m.

Panelists include Chuck Marohn, the founder and president of Strong Towns; Joe Minicozzi, of Urban3; Mashpee Town Manager Rodney Collins; Paul Niedzwiecki, of Southfield Redevelopment Authority; and moderator Russ Preston.

The event will provide an opportunity for residents to learn how local officials, design professionals and citizens have helped their communities to become more financially resilient.

The series of “Tuesday Talks” are meant to bring together local, regional and national experts to discuss key themes and ideas which emerged from successful public visioning sessions held in November and December.

The previous public workshops attracted over 300 people resulting in hundreds of suggestions regarding the future of the commons.

Housing on Cape Cod was the focus of the first forum on March 6.

The second session scheduled for March 13 on infrastructure, public space and systems planning was postponed due to inclement weather and will be rescheduled.

Zoning issues will be discussed at Mashpee Library on April 10 at 6 p.m.
