Mashpee Commons ‘Master Plan Week’ Comes To a Close

Buff Chace, Managing Partner for Mashpee Commons Limited.

MASHPEE- The “Mashpee Commons Master Plan Week” officially came to an end yesterday, with Commons’ officials showcasing what the public had come up with in terms of future growth of the mixed use development.

“What we’ve heard mostly is the need for more housing types that are currently [un]-available in Mashpee and the surrounding towns, housing for younger people who want to stay on the Cape and can’t find a place that is suitable for them, and older people who would like to down-size from their single family home to an apartment,” said Buff Chace, Managing Partner for Mashpee Commons Limited.

‘Plan Week’ was a design charterette that included cookouts, community planning meetings, and with feedback workshops that are aimed to solidify new plans to improve the commons and their customer experiences.

“When people… [came] in and said ‘what about this,’ or ‘what about that’ we’ve tried to draw up what those might look like,” he said.

“In some cases there are reasons that you can’t do the way it has been suggested, and others we’ve taken the ideas of the citizens and incorporated them. Hopefully, everybody will look at it and see little bits of things that they suggested,” said Chace.

Although no official time-table has been set to put these ideas in motion, Chace did mention that he hopes the projects can take off the ground in the next 5-15 years, and be admired by future generations here on the Cape for years to come.
