Mashpee Family Looking for Stolen Tribute to Fallen Son

MASHPEE – A Mashpee family is asking for help after they say someone stole a tribute to their fallen son from their yard.

The McGuire family had a kneeling solider silhouette taken from their home on Katian Way sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The display honors Marine Pfc. Dan McGuire, who was killed in Iraq in 2008. It was placed outside to coincide with Memorial Day.

“We realize this isn’t a ‘big deal’ in the scheme of things BUT it is BIG for our family,” Kae McGuire, Dan McGuire’s mother, wrote on social media. “To have someone creep into your yard and STEAL a tribute to your son who was killed in action HURTS! This kneeling solider silhouette means NOTHING to the ones who stole it…yet it holds special meaning for our family.”

“We just want it returned,” McGuire said.

McGuire’s brother also posted on social media, asking friends across Cape Cod to help them track down the silhouette.

“It holds special significance in our house…please help us find it.”

The family has reported the matter to Mashpee Police.
