Mashpee Gold Star Family Gets Statue to Replace One Stolen Last Week

Replacement statue given to the McGuire family

MASHPEE – A replacement statue depicting a kneeling soldier has been delivered to a Gold Star family in Mashpee.

The McGuire family had the original silhouette taken from their home on Katian Way last week.

The display honored Marine Pfc. Dan McGuire, who was killed in Iraq in 2008. It was placed outside to coincide with Memorial Day.

A social media post by Kae McGuire says a man from Boston and his fiancée arrived this past weekend with a replacement they made for the family.

“We are humbled by the offers and words of support. God has blessed our hearts richly!!” McGuire wrote.

She said a heavier metal replacement is also being made by volunteers.

“We realize this isn’t a ‘big deal’ in the scheme of things BUT it is BIG for our family,” Kae McGuire, Dan McGuire’s mother, wrote on social media last wee.

“To have someone creep into your yard and STEAL a tribute to your son who was killed in action HURTS! This kneeling solider silhouette means NOTHING to the ones who stole it…yet it holds special meaning for our family.”

The family has reported the matter to Mashpee Police.
