Mashpee Hunter Arrested on Outstanding Warrants

huntersFALMOUTH – A Mashpee man was arraigned yesterday in Falmouth District Court on several charges related to a hunting trip in Falmouth’s Town Forest on Monday.

Falmouth Deputy Director of the Department of Marine and Environmental Services Charles Martinsen said he was doing a random check of licenses of four hunters coming out of the forest on Gifford Street when one ran away.

Martinsen pursued the man through the woods and he was eventually arrested by Falmouth Police Officer Tom Maguire.

Aran M. Antone, 55, of Mashpee was charged with having two outstanding warrants out of Falmouth District Court for instances in Falmouth and Mashpee having to do with operating a vehicle with a suspended license and other motor vehicle violations.

He was also charged with unlicensed possession of a firearm without an Firearm Identification Card and possession of ammunition without an FID card, as well as failure to present a license.

He was arrested and was released on personal recognizance.

He was arraigned yesterday in Falmouth District Court.

Martinsen issued a reminder that shotgun hunting season lasts for another week and a half and then black powder hunting season, in which hunters use an rifle, lasts until the end of the year.

He said people walking in the woods should be aware of hunting areas and wear bright clothing.
