Update: Fall River Driver in Fatal Cotuit Crash Was Out on Reduced Bail in Murder Case

COTUIT –  One of the drivers killed early Saturday morning in a head-one crash in Cotuit has been identified as Kevin P. Quinn, 32, of Mashpee.

According to social media posts and a GoFund page created in his name, Quinn was coming home from Cape Cod Hospital where his wife had recently delivered a newborn baby daughter.

The GoFund me page described Quinn as a combat veteran who did two tours in Afghanistan.

As of Monday afternoon, more than $155,000 had been pledged for the family.

The driver of the other car, who also died, has been identified as Mickey Rivera, 22, of Fall River.

His passenger, Jocelyn Goyette, 24, of New Bedford, remains hospitalized in Boston in critical condition.

Rivera, according to law enforcement officials, had a lengthy criminal record.

He was out on a reduced bail of $1,000 from $35,000 in connection with a murder case out of Fall River from 2015.

According to prosecutors in Bristol County, Rivera was charged as an accessory in the Fall River murder case and was scheduled to be back in court this week.

Reports also indicate he had additional criminal entries on his record as an adult and a juvenile. He died instantly at the scene.

Rivera had spent several months in jail before he was released on the lower bail last year.

The accident happened just after 12 a.m. on Route 28 and remains under investigation.

On Monday, a memorial was set up by Denise Lauren, a friend of Quinn’s, along Route 28 near the accident scene.

A friend and fellow U.S. Marine also stopped at the memorial to place a Marine flag.

Two Mashpee police cars had been pursuing Rivera a short time before the crash. All three cars were seen going through the Mashpee Rotary and down Route 28.

Early Saturday afternoon Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline released the following statement:

“In the early morning hours of July 28, 2018, a tragic accident occurred in the Town of Barnstable resulting in the death of two individuals. We are in the early stages of what is going to be a comprehensive and thorough investigation into the Mashpee Police Department’s involvement of the facts and circumstances leading up to this terrible tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the victims and their families at this time.”
