BOSTON – A Cape Cod Community College student from Mashpee was recently honored at the State House as one of the “29 Who Shine.”

The awards are presented to one student from each of the Commonwealth’s 29 higher learning campuses.

Grace Jensen, who is a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and has spent several years traveling the country to pursue her passion of conservation, is graduating from 4Cs this spring with a degree in General Studies and a concentration in sciences.

She graduated from Mashpee High School in 2008. In 2017, she was accepted into the Bureau of Indian Affairs Water Resource Technician Training program. She has also completed more than 200 hours of study with the University of Arizona hydrology department and federal agencies that include the United States Geological Survey.

Jensen also traveled to Virginia to serve with an AmeriCorps internship with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.

She will continue her education this fall at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

“Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to work outside and explore our natural world,” Jensen said.

“Born and raised here, Cape Cod will always be my home. My close ties to this beautiful place give me reason to do whatever I can to protect it and its residents.”
