MASHPEE – After this past winter’s harsh storms that tore down numerous lit trees at the Mashpee Rotary, officials with the Chamber of Commerce, and local military mom Maria Conlon have stepped in to help fix the problem, just in time for the holiday season.
One of the two Norway Spruces was dedicated to Maria’s fallen son Private First-Class Paul E. Conlon Jr, the second was donated to all armed forces members, and first responders.
“These Christmas lights and trees have always been important to me and my family. It takes a village to raise a child, and this is our village,” said Maria Conlon.
This dedication was held Wednesday marking the 10th anniversary of Private Conlon’s death in Afghanistan back in August of 2008.
“I just want to thank everyone for their support. I wanted to thank the town, the Department of Public Works, and the Conlon family for their generosity,” said Mary Lou Palumbo, Executive Director of the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce.
“Thanks to everyone with a great community spirit here in Mashpee, the lights will shine bright this holiday season,” added Palumbo.
The donated trees were planted in July and another tree is scheduled to be planted later on this year.
