MASHPEE – A new social media policy has been enacted for Mashpee Town Hall employees.

Selectmen approved the new policy on September 11, which keeps employees from revealing protected information and sets up protocols for social media accounts for departments.

The town’s legal counsel reviewed the policy before selectmen voted for it.

Town officials say that the policy does not discourage the use of social media, but sets up parameters for employees.

The eight-page policy will have to be signed by all town employees and officials and those who violate it during employment could be violated.
