BUZZARDS BAY – The Massachusetts Maritime Academy held an emergency preparedness exercise Wednesday simulating an active gunman situation on campus.
Admiral Richard Gurnon, the school’s president, said the drill went well and showed that the school just needs to make some minor tweaks with its communication system.
Those changes will be addressed with a few additional loudspeakers in certain spots on campus.
Gurnon said the school often holds emergency preparedness drills, but this was the first time Mass Maritime has held one during regular hours of operation.
He said the latest string of gun violence in academic settings stresses the importance of emergency preparedness.
