BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts attorney general says she will not move to shut down daily fantasy sports sites, including Boston-based DraftKings Inc., but will instead ensure that they are fair.
Attorney General Maura Healey tells The Boston Globe the state has no laws explicitly barring the games, so her ongoing review of the industry will focus on consumer protection.
Healey says the review would examine advertising practices, whether the companies adequately disclose the risks of playing, whether they are paying appropriate taxes, and whether the games are fair.
She also said the burden of clarifying whether the games are legal could fall back onto lawmakers, who have said they are looking to her for guidance.
DraftKings said in a statement that Healey is taking a “reasoned and measured approach” to the business.
And, the next thing Healey will be doing is talking about how this gambling is having a negative impact on the lottery, the economic future of the state, family dysfunction, and so on.
