Massachusetts Collects Nearly $2.28B in Taxes in March

Tax form TaxesBOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts has collected nearly $2.28 billion in taxes in March.

That’s about $252 million more than March of last year, an increase of more than 12 percent.

Despite the boost, revenues collections are $86 million below predictions nine months into the 2016 fiscal year.

Acting Revenue Commissioner Kevin Brown credited the March bump on higher-than-expected business taxes. March is typically the strongest month for business and corporate tax collections.

Brown says his office will closely track how much the state collects in April, which is traditionally the top month for tax revenues.

So far this fiscal year, Massachusetts has brought in $17.85 billion in taxes.

That’s $502 million — or 2.9 percent — higher than at the same point last fiscal year, but still lower than anticipated.
