Massachusetts Sheriffs to Send Storm Supplies to Florida

BOURNE – The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department will join law enforcement agencies from across Massachusetts by sending much need supplies to Florida in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

Sheriff James Cummings will take part in a send-off event Tuesday morning at 9 at the Sheriff’s complex in Bourne. The supplies will then be trucked to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s complex in Plymouth before departing for Florida.

Collections were taken up at the Sheriff’s headquarters as well as at drop off sites at eight Cape Cod police stations.

The effort was spearheaded by Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph McDonald, who coordinated with county law enforcement from across Massachusetts to gather the goods. The Florida Sheriff’s Association had requested supplies from across the country.

The supplies from across Massachusetts are scheduled to depart Plymouth at 11 a.m. Tuesday. They will be trucked to Florida by tractor trailers donated by Teamsters Local 25.
